Chef Michele

Chef MicheleChef Michele M. Powers, R.D. attended the School of Culinary Arts at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. After receiving her Associates Degree in Bakery and Pastry Arts, Michele felt that she could do more through the therapeutic uses of food. She completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Culinary Nutrition, a program that combined science classes with cooking labs such as spa, vegetarian, and athletic-performance cuisine.

After her undergraduate work, Michele completed a 1-year dietetic internship through Virginia Tech to become a registered dietitian. During the internship, Michele had multiple opportunities to use her knowledge of food and cooking in combination with the more scientific realm of dietetics. She realized that many chronic illnesses and conditions can be prevented or reversed by a healthy diet. She became passionate about pairing food and nutrition to teach people how to prepare balanced meals.

Through Michele’s company NutrientChef, she is able to work one-on-one with individuals and families, teaching them healthy cooking techniques, helping them adapt to a new meal plan, and encouraging them as they make gradual lifestyle changes.

In addition to working with clients, Michele can be found in her own kitchen developing and testing recipes for Cooking Light Magazine. She also teaches health-focused cooking classes within the community and hosts nutrition corporate seminars.

In her free time, Michele enjoys running, swimming, hiking, reading, and taking road trips. She is an active member of her church and loves spending time with her husband and her family.  Michele is also an active member of the American Dietetic Association and the Northern Virginia Dietetic Association.
